Story of Devi Kaalratri : According to the legend, when Raktabeej defeated all the gods and snatched their kingdom, then all the gods went to Mahadev ji with a complaint of donation.
Lord Shiva Shankar asked all the deities who came to him the reason for his coming. The deity then told Trilokinath about the atrocities committed by Raktabeej.
Hearing this, Lord Shiva Shankar requested Mata Parvati that, O Goddess, you should immediately kill that demon and give back your royal happiness to the gods. Then Mata Parvati did penance there.
Kalratri was born out of the effulgence of mother’s spiritual practice. When Maa Durga was killing Raktabeej, hundreds of demons were born from the blood of Raktabeej that fell on the earth.
Then Maa Durga requested Kalratri to devour those demons. Then Mother Kalika started taking the blood of Raktabeej in her mouth even before it fell on the ground.
Thus Mata Kalika started wearing a garland of shavings around her neck while slitting the throats of Asuras in the battlefield. Thus Raktabeej was killed in the battle. This form of Maa Durga is called Kalratri.
Story of Origin of Kalratri : Goddess Kaalratri
According to the legend, the demons Shumbh-Nishumbha and Raktabeej created a ruckus in the three worlds. Worried about this, all the gods went to Shiva. Shiva asked Goddess Parvati to kill the demons and protect his devotees.
Following Shiva’s advice, Parvati took the form of Durga and killed Shumbha-Nishumbha. But as soon as Durga ji killed Raktabeej, lakhs of Raktabeej were produced from the blood that came out of her body. Seeing this, Durga ji created Kalratri with her effulgence.
After this, when Durga ji killed Raktabeej, Kalratri filled the blood coming out of her body in her mouth and killed Raktabeej by slitting everyone’s throat.
