He said that he has not received any invitation to go to the Yagya and hence it is not appropriate to go there. Sati did not obey and kept urging again and again to go to the yagya. Due to Sati’s disobedience, Shiva had to obey her and gave her permission.
When Sati reached her father Prajapita Daksha’s place, she saw that no one was talking to her with respect and love. Everyone turned back and only his mother hugged him lovingly. The rest of her sisters were ridiculing her and also despising Lord Shiva, the husband of Sati.
Even Daksha himself did not leave any opportunity to insult. Seeing such behavior, Sati became sad. She could not bear the humiliation of herself and her husband… and then the very next moment she took a step that even Daksha himself could not have imagined.
Sati sacrificed her life by killing herself in the fire of the same yagya. As soon as Lord Shiva came to know about this, he became sad. Burning in the flames of sorrow and anger, Shiva destroyed that yagya. This Sati was again born here in the Himalayas and due to her birth there, she was named Shailputri.
Maa Durga is first worshiped as Shailputri. She was named Shailputri because of her birth as the daughter of Himalaya. Her vehicle is Vrishabha, hence she is also known as Goddess Vrisharudha. This goddess holds a trident in her right hand and a lotus in her left hand. This goddess is the first Durga. She is also known as Sati. He has a touching story.

She could not bear this humiliation of her husband and burnt herself to ashes by Yogagni. Distraught by this terrible sorrow, Lord Shankar destroyed that Yagya. This Sati was born in the next life as the daughter of Shailraj Himalaya and was called Shailputri.
